Highway 105 Corridor Project News

Project Update, Summer 2017: El Paso County is continuing to move forward with the Highway 105 Corridor Improvements from Interstate 25 to State Highway 83. Preliminary design activities are now completed based on the Preferred Alternative that was identified in the Highway 105 Corridor Study Corridor Preservation Plan dated November, 2012 (a copy of which can be found on this website). The preliminary design activities included field surveys and data collection, environmental analysis of impacts and mitigation, traffic study, design refinement of the preferred alternative and preparation of preliminary design plans. The preferred alternative includes several safety and mobility improvements including improved sight distance, increased shoulder width and additional turn lanes at intersections.

El Paso County has also entered into an agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for federal funding for final design and construction of the first segment of the Project, from the I-25 interchange east ramps, approximately 1 mile to Lake Woodmoor Drive. The Project will extend the 4-lane section east of Knollwood Drive and include improved shoulders, and additional turn lanes and sidewalks. It is anticipated for the final design for the first segment to be completed by Winter 2018 and construction for this segment to commence the Summer of 2018.

Funding for final design and construction of the remainder of the Corridor, from Lake Woodmoor Drive to SH-83, is included in the Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority (PPRTA) Capital funding program over the next 10 years. The phasing and construction of future projects has not yet been determined, but will be evaluated as part of the ongoing preliminary design.

A future public meeting to discuss the remainder of the Corridor is tentatively planned for later in the design process, but has not yet been scheduled. Further details on the public meeting including date and location will be posted on this Project website in the upcoming months. The reports and presentation materials from the previous corridor study are also available on this website and can be accessed by clicking on the attached links.
